One of the golden rule of being a nice person is

“If you have nothing good to say about someone, then be quiet.” – anonymous

I found it so wrong.  It is worse to have the awkward silence.  So here is what I found out:

– start talking about yourself instead: this always works if you are a confident individual.  (If you are not, see below)

– begin talking about a random subject  – like a fine art piece you saw in the museum or the horsepower of your car (depending on your audience)

– get away from that person

What you should NEVER do:

– singing to cover the uncomfortable silence (this is just plainly embarrassing)

– talking about weather (really?  unless it is a noticeable weather disturbance like hurricane or ten feet of snow)
